Fly-ash Planter - College of Design

Fly-ash, a byproduct of burning coal, was the material investigated in this semester long study. With a mixture of 86% fly-ash & 14% additive (water, citric acid, & koh) the material worked as concrete, allowing for creative designs.

The investigation began with the design of a single tile followed by further exploration of planter construction. Pieces were digitally designed, forms milled on CNC machine, mixture poured & ready for display.
