DIDI CONNECTION

The Didi Connection - Anchal Project

The Didi Connection is a global sisterhood passionate about making a difference for women across continents and seas. Its effectiveness stems from the realization that all women are sisters and that you can do something to change a fellow sister's life today.

In India, women affectionately call each other "didi," meaning sister in Hindi.

When you purchase a Didi Scarf, you are supporting your sister out of the sex trade in India. Our goal is to sell 600 scarves and support 15 of our sisters in leaving the sex trade for good. The Didi Connection will give our sisters the opportunity to work full-time as Anchal artisans, making 30%-50% more income than sex work.

Deliverables: in collaboration with Colleen Clines & Maria Molfino - conceptual development, graphic design, product photography & marketing.

In collaboration with award winning actress and activist, America Ferrera, Anchal launched the first line of Didi Scarves during the Fall of 2012. The Didi Connection  brought  women together through beautiful, one-of-a-kind scarves created by Anchal artisans.

Passionate about the issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment, America Ferrera is also a women’s rights activist. She traveled to India with Nicholas Kristof in May 2011 to film the PBS Documentary, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. During her trip, America visited New Light, one of Anchal Project’s NGO partners.

It wasn’t long before America was sitting on the ground with the Anchal’s artisans participating in our program, and admiring the beauty of their strength and the products they made.
